NYFW 2018: What to Wear to Fashion Week

Overall, this year was super fun and I am really honored and excited to attend fashion week. My favorite part of experiencing this is getting inspiration for next season. Trends come and go so fast these days and it’s amazing to have a front row seat at the place where it all happens. This is where fashion is truly shaped into an art form. Culture, music, and life come together on these stages in such a beautiful way. This brings us to the hardest part of gearing up for this event: what to wear to fashion week.

We are already 3/4 through fashion week and I haven’t had time to say a word about it! I have had such a crazy transition into the school year and am completely overwhelmed but I am back and ready to talk about the craziness that is New York Fashion Week. In the next few weeks, I am going to sum it all up for you let you know what is on my mind.

Fashion week for me was such a busy blur as I was focused on so many projects besides attending shows and events themselves. Having just flown into New York for a few days, I had a lot on my plate besides just blogging so I did not get to attend most of the shows I was invited to. However, I still got to see some amazing work and walking the streets of New York during this time of year always poses a great source of inspiration of what to wear to fashion week. Here’s what I wore!

Day 1

This ended up being the biggest day for me, so I brought out my best outfit. Leading up to fashion week, I found a lot of inspiration from work wear. I rarely ever suit up but I thought, what better time to do so than New York Fashion Week. Dreaming of what to wear, I searched very specifically for some type of suit that involved shorts. This ended up working out really well because I noticed a lot of short suits in the shows, something that was not happening as much previously. One important distinction though was that people were wearing bermuda short style suits giving in to the dad trend. Something I learned with this outfit is to always steam before traveling! I did not have access to a steamer on this trip and ironing just never does the same for your wrinkles that a steamer can.

Day 2

I had a much less stressful day planned and ended up spending most of it in the office. This meant I wanted to wear something more comfortable but at the same time on trend. I have been waiting to debut these pants for a very long time but never felt it was right. Since it is finally September, I knew it was the perfect time to wear the most “fall” item I owned. The paisley detail on these silk pants is part of what drew them to me. I am glad that my first fall look of the season was super grungy and had a very casual vibe because I would love to feel this way for the next few months. Every time I see a Nirvana shirt, I buy it so I had to grab this one. It is technically a dress but I thought it was cool to wear as an oversized t-shirt. I have seen girls wear band tees like this and it makes them even cooler than ever.

When wearing all black in a crowd of all black, it can be hard to let your personal style shine through. Working a fashion show always puts that obstacle into place for anyone especially when comfort and movability is the main priority. At the 3.1 Phillip Lim show, I was able to achieve my goals with this look! For me, this was a great look for transitioning into fall and being comfortable all day long. It was raining and cold but this jacket was able to keep me warm and dry!

A few years into the blogging world and I have probably seen a few thousand fashion week looks by now. Some girls love to dress in something completely outrageous that could not translate to any other playing field while others decide what to wear on fashion week based on translating trends to their mainstream audiences. I am definitely part of the second group for many reasons but mainly because I just want to look like and feel like myself! Fashion is insanely difficult to keep up with but there are always the trends and styles that we hold near and dear to our hearts. Finding those and reshaping them into my unique mold is my favorite thing about fashion.
