Bermuda Shorts: 9 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid To Go Long

The fashion crowd has been buzzing about the bermuda shorts trend for summer 2020 but lately I’ve been sensing some resistance. I’ve decided that I’d take up the challenge of convincing those who are a little intimidated by this one.

After over a decade of daisy dukes being the norm, it definitely makes sense to be wary of the bermuda short. However, I think this ode to the ‘90s can still be feminine and sexy in a different way. Adding a feminine top like the lavender Versace knit that I thrifted a few years ago, makes this easier. This style of short blends well into your office wear or more commonly a casual weekend spent exploring.

My favorite way to try out new trends is by using Rent The Runway. I’ve been dabbling in their collection of bermuda shorts with my favorite being a black pair from Khaite for a chic and effortless trial run. I think your best starting point is a white linen resort style short and then an everyday denim one but will keep trying out more bold pairs with RTR.

Trust me when I say you’re going to wish you tried this one out sooner if you don’t start now. We have been buzzing about bermuda shorts at work (check out this story I did on the trend for BAZAAR here) and once you give it a chance, you will be too.

#1: A good way to step into this trend is to try a medium length first. A basic tee is the way to go for easy simplicity.

Shorts: $70 / HERE, Shirt: $5 / HERE, Belt: $170 / EXACT, $9 / Similar, Sunglasses: $20 / HERE

#2: I love stepping into neutral tones and this is exactly how I would choose to style it today. This is the chic summer vibe you’ve been waiting to emulate.

Shorts: $79 / HERE, Dior Tote: $2,500 / HERE, Top: $25 / HERE, Bracelet & Ring are Cartier

#3: A summer short suit is not only professional chic but cool for the weekends too. I love the styling of this suit with a crisp white button down and white tee to add several layers. These are difficult to come across, unfortunately the original from Frankie Shop is sold out, but I have found something similar in a different color.

Suit: $150 / similar, Shirt: $58 / HERE, Necklace: $148 / HERE

#4: I had to include this look for the girly-girls. You may be more resistant to this trend than others but you can’t deny how cute this is!

Bag: $600 / HERE, $85 / similar, Shorts: $70 / HERE, Sunglasses: $153 / HERE, $12 / similar, Top: $18 / HERE

#5: And for those who are bold and fearless, an edgy look like this will make a statement. Bonus points to anyone who goes longer than knee length.

Similar Top: $58  / HERE, Similar Shorts: $2,440 / HERE

#6: A white pair like mine with a crop top is an easy way to make this work for date night.

Shorts: $198 / HERE, Top: $14 / HERE

#7: This pair is my favorite if you’re looking for something good for everyday wear!

Shorts: $138 / HERE, Sandals $22 / HERE

Are you convinced? Or not? Hoping you can at least walk away with a newfound appreciation for those who dabble in this trend. Trust me, it’s here to stay so you will want to be one of the first in your circle to give it a try and the rest will follow!
