ULTRAVIOLET: HOW THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR IS HAVING A SURPRISING EFFECT

Hearing that ultraviolet was the color of the year sincerely shocked me but I quickly fell in love with this shade of purple after seeing it everywhere from fashion week to my daily shopping trips.

The effect of an official color of the year being announced by Pantone has become pretty powerful. 2017’s greenery was a combination of green and yellow. Since then, the color yellow has exploded and green is on its way to the top as well. Brands typically diversify from the official shade and test out the colors ability to shift while maintaining its appeal in the grand scheme of the aesthetic it brings. The Pantone forecasters have a powerful effect on all creative fields including beauty, interior design, and most importantly fashion.

Ultraviolet was a bold choice for the color of the year but it translated to a lot of bold fashion and design choices made the decision impactful.

This definitely is at the top of my favorite ultraviolet looks. It is such a bold claim on the trend that has erupted based off of this color. It completely accepts it and has a unique twist. The bodysuit being on the outside of the outfit is something that typically does not happen so this made the look really stand out to me. One of my favorite bloggers, Danielle Bernstein, recently wore this ensemble and my heart melted!

This translation of the trend is a lot more feminine and sexy. I love how the boots dress it down while still keeping its allure. I am seeing a lot of proof that ultraviolet is such a sophisticated color. The formal all-dressed-up purple dress by Cavalli is really wooing me.

This brand designs for the everyday fashionable working woman so it’s no surprise I pulled their ultraviolet look. The knit here is so wearable and comfortable that I couldn’t leave it out of my coverage of this trend. I can see it super casual with a pair of jeans or elevated with a miniskirt for a nice dinner.

STREET

During February during fashion month, I saw the ultraviolet trend come to life not only on the runway but also in the streets. Since then, it has trickled down to just about every store and has become an Instagram phenomenon. It is so easy to shop this trend and my favorite example is how & Other Stories currently has a setup that includes an entire rack dedicated to different purple and ultraviolet hues.
