NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FW16

New York Fashion Week Fall 2016 Ready to Wear kicked off in the Big Apple on Thursday of last week and the city has been buzzing about it. Of all of the shows so far, I have had my eye on looks from Lacoste, Jeremy Scott and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Below are my favorite looks.

Jeremy Scott

I absolutely love Jeremy Scott because of his references to past time periods and his allusion to pop culture. In this show, Scott takes the audience to the 1950’s with the models in pin-up style hair and makeup. Scott resurrects animal prints, but with a modern twist, backing the prints with unusual colors. This event was studded with Victoria Secret Angels appearing all over the runway in Scott’s magnificent designs.

Karlie Kloss brings Rock n’ Roll to the runway in this chic guitar dress. The halter top is reminiscent the styles seen in Hairspray. Powder blue for fall is bold, but Klossy makes the color look so good, it works for any season. I like that she is wearing the same bracelet on both wrists–I expect to see this trending.

Rome is looking out of this world in her body con t-shirt dress. It is simple but magnificent, and the studded boots complete the look. I love the simplicity of the makeup in this show, specifically the way the pink lips highlight the outfits. Fishnet tights and lightning earrings  bring more excitement to the ensemble.

Holy cow! Stella Maxwell rocked the runway in this pink cow-print coat and boot set. It’s no secret that Jeremy Scott loves Maxwell, so seeing her in his show is no surprise. I love this look because the coat is extremely flattering: it cinches the waist and has great lapels. The look is farm girl goes chic.

Lacoste

The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw this show was “primary colors.” Lacoste focused on colors that are reminiscent of elementary school days. Color-blocking is a great way to look slim and long and I expect to see more primary colors in street style.

I love this outfit because the vertical stripes elongate the body making the wearer of this outfit look like a supermodel. I have not seen much peplum recently, but in this ensemble it accentuates the waistline. In the past, tracksuits were something only moms could pull off, but I am excited to see a modernized version.

The boots in this outfit are easily rockable and I love the overalls. Most overalls are stiff denim, and therefore don’t hug the body. The use of a different material adds a svelte twist to this traditionally grunge piece. The angled zippers are also a cool way to mix things up.

3.1 Phillip Lim

Phillip Lim designed a modern militaristic look this week highlighting the best colors for fall: army green and brown. They featured a lot of plaid outfits that reminded me of the classic ’90s film, Clueless. Funky eyewear and sleek middle-parted hair made this show worth watching.

A leather jacket is a wardrobe staple, so this ensemble is a great way of updating this classic model-off-duty look. The booties accentuate the models legs and make her look taller and longer. This skirt could be worn on a casual day or to work and is a practical, but flirty, length. I am a sucker for a good pair of cat-eye sunnies and I think these would be perfect for Spring Break.

The puffy sleeves on this jacket make it a great way to make a statement. I love the two-toned booties and that they stay tight and close to the ankle. Her hair is covering her face making her look more intimidating. I love seeing good leather pieces in the fall, and hope to see these on the streets coming soon.
