ROLLERBLADING IN THE DARK

On nights when there isn’t snow on the ground, usually between the hours of 10pm and 2am, I find myself rollerblading. I frequently hear statements anywhere from “Why?” to “OH MY GOD THAT IS SO COOL! I WISH I COULD DO THAT!!” I never really have a good response to comments on my rollerblading so I hope that this post does a good job of explaining why I do it.

I started skating when I was four years old and have always been doing it for exercise. When I am away from campus, rollerblading on Jupiter Beach is one of my favorite things to do. Rollerblading does a great job of strengthening leg and ab muscles. It burns so many calories that I can easily put it into my workout routine as cardio.

One of the reasons that I choose to rollerblade at night is because during the day other students are walking around and are in my way. Late at night, when there are less people around, it is very peaceful. When I need “me time”, I make sure to grab my rollerblades and head outside. When I have a hard time sleeping, going outside and rollerblading helps clear my mind while tiring me out.

Out of all the reasons I love rollerblading, I mainly do it because I think it’s fun. I honestly recommend skating as an exercise because it is a great form of cardiovascular activity and is fairly simple.
