How To Wear A Sarong Over a Swimsuit: Beach Sophistication

Most bikinis and one-pieces are cute by themselves but I am starting to notice that the more accessories you add to the list, the more sophisticated you look. Anyone can put on a bikini for the summer but accessorizing it properly is what is really important. This is something I noticed when I saw a few bloggers I follow really step up their game. My feed is saturated with beautiful girls in itty-bitty swimsuits so seeing someone make this luxurious by adding a sarong and jewelry really stood out to me. This is why I want to talk about how to wear a sarong over a swimsuit. It isn’t always easy to move in this direction with your swimwear but I am definitely going to give it a try on my next vacation. I am just blown away by how beautiful it looks when you go the extra mile with your styling.

The trick really is to find the perfect match to the suit that you will be wearing. This is the part where you get to have a little bit of fun and switch things up. I love when people do some mixing and matching to bring out their sense of style. Doing this also adds a unique twist to the trend making it easier to make it your own. For example, a sheer sarong could look really cool with some polka dots which I will show later in this blog post. Adding a woven bag or floppy beach hat could also bring your look to the next level.

Another reason that I love the idea of wearing a sarong with your swimsuit is that it makes it easier to wear one. Some days, I am bloated or not as fit as I like to be and really don’t want to put on a bikini. We have all been there! Luckily, a lot of swim cover-ups, especially a high-waisted sarong, can be really slimming. For the longest time, I never wore bikinis because even though I have a slim build, I was really self-conscious. I still am just as much as anyone else. A sarong is a great way to ease into a bikini if you are nervous to wear one. I wish I knew how to wear a sarong over a swimsuit back then! There are so many types of styles for this trend but I am going to share with you just two of my favorite options.

I love this idea because it makes this more conservative swimsuit trend a little bit more sexy and bold. The interesting part of learning how to wear a sarong over a swimsuit is deciding whether you want to be sophisticated or daring. High-legged ’80s style one-pieces are trending again and this is a great way to rock the trend while still covering up more. If you are nervous to wear something more trendy and luxurious to the beach I think this is an easy first step to achieving that goal. This is how you really wear a sarong over a swimsuit! You will also find styles like this at amazing prices!

Indah Sarong $66 / HERE

This type of sarong is really great if you love to draw attention to your legs by making them look slimmer and longer. I love the mini-sarongs that cut around the knee, but this one is more flattering if you are shorter or just looking to enhance your figure. The bright pop of color and the high waist is extremely flattering. This is my favorite sarong of the bunch!

If you are as excited about this trend as I am this is the item for you! You can get four different sarongs at such a low price. I love the idea of pairing these with a contrasting color or keeping it simple and getting a monochrome look. If you are interested in one of these sarongs, but not all they are also sold individually for only $10. But clearly, you are getting the best deal when purchasing the entire pack.

This is a classic beachwear look that I love to see repeated over and over. If you want to know how to wear a sarong over a swimsuit with a lot of style, this photo is the absolute inspiration! The striped and linen sarong is amazing and also serves as a great beach towel. If you want a more dressed up look than the sheer this is absolutely the way to go. Stripes are always really slimming and this is such a fun extra. I also think the striped sarong looks great on women of all ages and sizes so it is the piece for everyone!

Mikoh Kainoa Sarong $62 / HERE

This softly woven sarong I found on Shopbop is imported from Indonesia. Is it giving you as many island vibes as it has given me? I can’t take my eyes off of this one. Such a vibe! I love the sarongs that have a thicker knot tied because I think they draw attention to your waistline and make it look slim. As soon as I saw this, I figured I had to figure out how to wear a sarong over a swimsuit so it could be added to my wardrobe! I also see a sarong like this as being extremely versatile because you could wear it with pretty much any color. It would look best with something brightly colored.

This last pick is also from the Indah brand that I mentioned earlier. It might be the best brand that I found for sarongs. Their items are handmade and beautifully woven to get that fresh-off-the-plane from Bali look. This sarong is really making me want to catch a flight. I would love to see it styled with a white swimsuit or something similar. An eye-catching piece like this will make you the stylish girl on the beach!

So that’s how you wear a sarong over a swimsuit! With just these two beachwear trends, I was able to find so many options! This trend is a bit off-the-beaten-path so if you are looking to be trendy, I really suggest it. I really want to style another beach lookbook in this luxurious style soon after doing all of this research. Do any of you wear sarongs? I would love to see how you have styled them!
